The Indian Society for Heat and Mass Transfer (ISHMT) has been acting as a nodal agency in India since 1974, stimulating researchers engaged in various areas of heat and mass transfer, and bringing them together for fruitful interactions and exchange of ideas.
Members of ISHMT located in and around Trivandrum met on March 30, 2016 at LPSC, Trivandrum, and decided to form ISHMT Regional Chapter, Trivandrum (ISHMT-RCT). Subsequently, it was registered as a Society under the Travancore-Cochin Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955.
The Chapter and the Society facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, carrier enrichment and skills development amongst the heat and mass transfer community, with members having diverse backgrounds.
ISHMT-RCT has been focusing on the Society activities in Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu (Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts) since 2016, and provides a common forum for academicians, scientists, engineers, industrialists and students to meet and foster collaborations to further advance the understanding in heat and mass transfer.
ISHMT-RCT serves this technical community by providing a platform for knowledge sharing through quality programs in continuing education, training, professional development.
The Chapter organizes and conducts events of interest for its members, including symposia, colloquia and conferences, both national and international. It distributes scientific and technical information to its members through the publication of periodicals, reports, proceedings of conferences etc. It also holds meetings and lectures by experts for students and professionals for their professional development, to expand the existing cutting edge in research, and to promote R&D activities in the fields of heat and mass transfer. The Chapter also supports graduate students, and in 2019 established the annual “Best M.Tech Thesis Award” for the best dissertations by students in the broad fields of heat and mass transfer within Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu. The top three best theses selected by an expert committee are bestowed the award during the Chapter’s AGBM, which carries a cash prize and a certificate to both recognize and encourage students in this field to continue their exciting R&D activities.
